Profile and outcome of pediatric intussusception: a 5-year experience in a tertiary care center

Abstract Background Intussusception is the most frequent cause of bowel obstruction in infants and toddlers; idiopathic intussusception occurs predominantly under age 3 rare after 6 years; highest incidence between 4 9 months; gold standard for treatment non-operative reduction. This research will tackle problem pediatric our center which largest tertiary region. The primary outcome to study profile intussusception; secondary assess success rate pneumatic reduction center’s population as well seasonal variation if present. Results During period, eighty-six (N=86) cases were identified, from 10 recurrent intussusception. Seventy-six (N=76) included period. N=68 (89%) less than years age, only N=2 (3%) above years. Seasonal was not significant; N=69 (91%) patients had successful fluoroscopy while thirteen N=13 (17%) needed operative intervention. Conclusion Ileocolic one common surgical emergencies that can be successfully managed non-operatively institute; 89% below no demonstrated. Operative intervention required 13 with main reason being lead point. fact surgeon performs might have contributed a high reaching 91% center. provides valuable opportunity future regional data comparisons pooled analyses.
